“Build it and they will come” says the famous line in the movie, Field of Dreams! Well our time has come at Whitman to “build it so they will stay”… on campus that is! No longer will the years of extended field closures and wet field conditions put our young student drivers on the road, or outdoor teams in the gym, parking lots, or just not practicing. PE students, the community, and many others will benefit from the availability of this great, new field!
After three long years of advocacy by parents and community members, the MCPS Board of Education and the Montgomery County Council have approved the installation of a new turf field. Construction has begun with a target completion date of August 8th.
When we started this journey, the All Sports Boosters Club agreed to fill a funding gap between the amount provided by a local sports organization (MSI Soccer as it worked out) and the cost of the field. In order to fill this gap as well as potential stadium enhancements, we are launching a fundraising campaign.
We will gladly accept donations in any amount, but we are also planning to offer long-term recognition through the use of engraved bricks (see pictures on this site)
- $200 Donation: entitles you to one 4×8 engraved brick with 3 text lines (13 character max per line)
As you can see in the pictures here, your brick will be seen by all in the main gathering area of Whitman High School’s new field!
Groundbreaking Ceremony is Saturday, May 19th , at which time we will begin to accept tax-deductible donations to support an engraved brick. We expect these bricks to sell out quickly, so the time is now to be part of the build team!
