Why Take the Practice SAT and/or Practice ACT with Whitman Boosters?

Standardized tests for colleges are in flux. Some schools are testing optional and some are going back to requiring tests for admissions.

Students typically take the digital Preliminary SAT (PSAT) in October of 10th and 11th grades. In both cases, this exam doesn’t “count” for college admissions.  However a student’s scores on the PSAT directly correlate with those on the official, digital SAT.  As a matter of fact, a student’s PSAT score is meant to capture exactly what a student would score on an SAT that same day.

Because the PSAT looks and feels real—and because it is structured differently than school exams—it can be unfamiliar and intimidating to students. For this reason, we have partnered with Capital Educators for many years to provide more practice opportunities for sophomores and juniors.

We offer students the option to take both practice tests so they can compare the experience of taking a paper ACT with that of taking the digital PSAT or Practice SAT.  This is useful because any college that encourages the submission of test scores is equally happy to receive paper ACTs or digital SATs.

The bottom line is that the Whitman Boosters makes these practice tests available to decrease anxiety by providing opportunity and knowledge. Now more than ever, with testing policies in a state of flux at colleges, we believe that this service is of invaluable assistance.
